A Cup is Not a Cup

4th Apr 2016

Have you ever made assumptions about what it means to have D-cup breasts? This letter doesn't necessarily mean a woman has a large bust!

One thing we've noticed throughout the years is that there isn't a standard cup size. In other words, the D cup on a 34 band will be really different from the D cup on a 28 band. People react very strongly during a fitting--if we say, "You're a DD," they think that means something, but it really doesn't. A 28DD is tiny and a 44DD is much larger.

Your cup size is sort of similar to a color family. There are many, many shades of blue, but they all look really different once you see them next to each other.

See how many shades of blue marbles there are? And yet they are all blue.

We brought in a photographer to show you some of our C-cup bras, all with different band sizes. In this image, you can see the difference in a C cup as the band grows from 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, and up to a 44.

In this image, we've just compared the 32C with the 44C:

Notice how the walls of the cup are taller on the bigger band bra? The cups are wider, and deeper, too. This is to accommodate the larger frame of the woman wearing the larger bra, but they are both a C cup!

This particular bra is our new strapless bra from QT Intimates. (It converts to a bra with straps so you can get more use out of it!) The cups of other brands/types of bra will "grow" along with the band size, so that's why we think it's so important to get fitted by someone who really knows a lot about different styles/brands of bras and can help you find a product that really fits your body.

Our staff is familiar with all of the products we carry, so we know how the cup size shifts and how our different bras will fit a woman differently as her body changes. We carry a wide range of both band and cup sizes at different price points. Why not come in for a fitting and let us find your perfect "shade"?
