Bras for a Cause

6th Sep 2016

Do you ever wonder what to do with bras you've outgrown? Many times, especially for those of us in the midst of our family expansion, our bodies change before our bras have worn out. But what to do with these lovely (and often expensive) garments?

A group of women in Waynesboro, PA, have come up with an idea to support two groups of women in need. The organization Bras for a Cause collects gently used bras for women in need at Waynesboro Community and Human Services and raises funds for women in the area undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Levana Bratique is proud to collect bras for this organization in advance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. We love the idea of supporting women who might not have the funds for quality bras and we'd love to do our part supporting women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The organization supports women undergoing treatment by offering things like meals, housekeeping services, and gas cards. Rhonda McFarland, co-chair of the organization, was inspired by a friend who underwent a double mastectomy. She gave her bras to the cause, saying, "Here. I don't need them."

All money raised by the effort will go to the Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance to support women in Waynesboro. Supporting businesses pledge $1 per bra collected. We are excited to support Bras for a Cause in their goal to collect 1,000 bras during the month of September. How many old bras do you have lying around in a drawer?

If you're local to Pittsburgh, feel free to stop by and help fill our collection box. Not from this area? Contact the organizers at cajns@aol.com or cvbca@comcast.net for more information.
