Strap Matters

18th Jul 2016

We've discussed before how most of the support from a bra comes from the band, not the straps. But the straps are still an important part of the garment, of course. If you're noticing issues with yours, it could be that you've chosen a bra type that doesn't suit your body.

Let's explain!

Some bras have wide-set straps. Usually a demi-cup or balconette bra will have these wide straps (like this cappuccino plunge bra). These bras are designed to showcase the top half of your breast and generally push the breasts forward--a look some women aim for. These bras can also accommodate a wider neckline, so they're a great choice for many tops and dresses.

But if your straps are slipping from your shoulders, this could indicate that wide-set straps are not right for your body type.

In this case, you'll want to look for a bra with straps sewn closer to the center of the cup (like this bra in the main photo).

We sell a few bras that convert into a racer-back style, which means the straps form an X shape in the back, helping to pull the bust up and in. Our Deco Vibe bra is an example of this--its straps are set wider in the front, but can convert to the racer-back for additional support.

Bra straps are also made of different materials, which can impact the bra's feel. Some are more elastic than others, some are wider...you get the idea. At Levana Bratique, we even have options for women looking for padded bra straps that help distribute the weight of a heavy bust.

In many cases, the bras we've selected are designed to be as beautiful as they are functional, so we not only have an option for every body type, we carry bras to support your bust beautifully...even if you're looking for lace embellishments on your DD+ bra straps
