Do You Sleep in a Bra?

9th Jan 2017

Women seem deeply divided on the question of sleeping in a bra. Most are either horrified by the idea...or else can't imagine sleeping without gentle support

There are many reasons sleeping in a regular bra might be a terrible idea. For starters, it adds more wear and tear to your garment if you're wearing it around the clock. Sleeping in an underwire bra sounds pretty uncomfortable, to say the least. Punch (a Nigerian online news outlet) recently published an article quoting medical anthropologist Sydney Singer saying sleeping in a bra can impede circulation, cause restlessness, irritate your skin, and even encourage fungus growth!

Singer is talking specifically about ill-fitting or tight bras causing these issues when worn for sleep. So what should women do if they need support at night?

We sell a number of bras designed to wear for sleep. Most of these are designed for pregnant or nursing mothers who don't get to take the night shift off from working breasts. However, any woman looking for a gentle lift while she lies down can wear these bras.

Our Majamas Organic Easy Bra is a cotton/Spandex blend that can be pulled aside for nursing access or just worn day or night by anyone looking for a comfortable bra.

This sleep/leisure bra by QT Intimates is perfect for nighttime wear. Completely seamless, it comes with one-hand drop cup release for breastfeeding. If you're not nursing, the soft, silky material is great for overnight support.

One of our favorite bras for anytime wear (day or night) is the Bella Materna Anytime Bralet. The thick bottom band makes for a more supportive sleep bra that's still comfortable. This bra has removable pads to offer additional support for daytime wear.  Just remove them and it offers just enough support to let you rest easy.
