How We Fit Women for Bras
7th Mar 2016
There are a lot of chain lingerie shops that offer "fittings," but this really means an employee ducks into your fitting room, slaps a tape measure over your shirt, and suggests a bra for you.
Likewise, there are a lot of specialty boutiques who claim their employees are "certified" to do bra fittings...well, there aren't really any organizations that offer certifications in bra fitting, so you won't find any of that here.
At Levana Bratique, we rely on our experience and product knowledge--Judy has been fitting women in bras for over 10 years and trains her employees until she feels confident they can fit you as well as she can. A fitting with us takes a fair bit of time, because rather than just measure women and leave them to browse, our employees suggest bras to women that match their needs, then ask questions while you are trying on the bras.
Judy points out that most bras are manufactured differently, so a bra fitter needs to know the ins and outs of many different brands to know how they'll fit a woman over the course of the day. "Bra fitting isn't science, it's more of an art," she says.
For example, some women's measurements will suggest they need a certain size bra, but Judy finds the woman actually fits best in a different cup or band size depending on the manufacturer. This can be frustrating because it makes it hard to shop for bras quickly. Since women spend 12 or more hours in their bra every day, we hope you'll enjoy your experience getting fitted for a good one here with us!
During your fitting, we'll ask what size bra you're currently wearing and we will take some measurements to get a ballpark idea of size range. Then, it's all about your preferences as we suggest some bras to try. Do you prefer underwire? Light padding? Looking for something lacy? The great news about Levana Bratique is that we offer options, even if you need a bra with a large band or cup.
If you're visiting us for the first time and looking for a fitting, you should plan to spend at least a half hour for a personalized, comprehensive experience. (Don't worry if you need to bring your little ones along with you! We've got toys to entertain them)
