Support the Girls with Levana Bratique

Every woman should have the ability to support and maintain her dignity. That's the battle cry of I Support the Girls, a nonprofit that collects feminine hygiene products and bras and distributes them to homeless women and girls and people in need throughout North America.

The group notes that these women often wear the same bra for years, causing health problems. The organization learned that almost nobody donates bras and that homeless shelters are in desperate need of both bras and feminine hygiene products. In the two years since they began, I Support the Girls has distributed 200,000 bras and 900,000 menstrual products. 

Times are troubling and finances are uncertain for so many of our neighbors right now. We know there are many, many women making difficult choices about purchasing groceries vs buying new bras that fit properly, let alone thinking about the cost of tampons weighed against the cost of the gas bill. 

We are humbled by the work of I Support the Girls, and excited to announce that we are working to become an affiliate. We want to help make a difference in the lives of women. Levana Bratique is holding a bra drive during the month of October. You can donate new or gently used (freshly laundered) bras at our shop. 

At the end of our bra drive, we will distribute the bras to local organizations, including The Free Store and the Pittsburgh Black Breastfeeding Circle. There are a number of organizations in our area who are doing good work to support people in their communities. We are thrilled to help them help others.

So. What kinds of bras can you donate? Regular bras, underwire bras, sports bras, training bras, maternity bras, nursing bras, lacy bras, cotton bras, satiny bras, camisoles, shapewear, and more. We are collecting all sizes. 

If you've got a drawer full of good-condition bras that no longer fit, nursing bras you're no longer using, or even brand new bras you'd like to donate to a good cause...we hope you'll bring them in so we can pass them on!
