"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping'." -Fred Rogers
What we are experiencing as a nation - and world - right now is unique for our lifetime. We have experienced other times of hardship throughout recent history, but never quite like this.
One of the beautiful things that comes out of difficult times is seeing the ways that people come together to ease one another’s burdens. Time after time, whether it’s a natural disaster or health crisis - it’s just what we do. We shoulder the burden together.
Right now at Levana, we’re looking for the helpers.
An assistant professor at CMU set up a virtual tip jar for people in the service industry that have been affected by restaurants and bars closing. There’s a woman in Dormant who organized a “Corona Choir” with her neighbors to help raise spirits and spread a little cheer. A friend of mine received an email from her apartment complex sharing a fellow resident's offer to pick up food or medicine for any at-risk groups in their community.
Is there someone in your neighborhood or community that has stepped up to help out those in need? Maybe they transformed their craft nook to sew masks for our medical community, are volunteering with 412 Food Rescue to get food to vulnerable people, or are offering video tutoring sessions to kids needing extra assistance that are home from school. Maybe it’s a retired doctor or nurse who is preparing to head back into the field to help their former colleagues that are on the frontlines.
Share their stories with us, so we can send them a small token of our gratitude.
If there is someone in your community that is using their time or talents to help others right now, let us know! All submissions can be entered using this form - feel free to nominate more than one person. During the months of April and May, we’ll choose one winner every week and treat them to a $50 Levana Bratique gift card to get themselves a free bra or panty or lingerie set. Winners will be announced on our social media, so be sure you are following us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
To all of the essential workers that are keeping us going right now: testing and treating those with symptoms, delivering our food and groceries, keeping shelves stocked in the stores that remain open, filling prescriptions, picking up our garbage, juggling the transition to educating our children remotely, and many other ways- THANK YOU. We appreciate you, we know that you are making a sacrifice, and we are so, so thankful for you.
There are still so many unknowns, besides that this new normal may go on for a while. Here is a really great article on naming and recognizing the grief that many of us are feeling as our regular routines have been turned topsy turvy, with the end of it all is still so unclear.
Stay safe, stay strong and stay sane everyone!
